April 2006
I have not created any works of genius in April unfortunately but all in all its been a good month. We went to Byron Bay to the Blues and Roots Festival which was great. However, to my dismay I didn't see one odd shoe on or beside the highway for the entire journey. It was midnight when we drove back to Brisbane so they might have been there unbeknowst to me dammit. I'll get 'em next time. The highlights of the festival for me were definately Sigur Ros and David Gray. I have never been sooo glad to see a wheelie bin in my life as I clambered my way on to the lid for an awesome view of the Icelandic boys. Terry has raved on and on and on about Sigur Ros for ages but I never took much notice until I saw them live. Bloody awesome. When I heard them play it reminded me of those dreams you have where you are flying. Cheesy analogy but true.
I have been a David Gray fan since living with Trina and Emma at Mort St. They introduced to me sweetness of the man and his music in 2002 so I was anticipating a great gig after fond memories of singing along to 'Sail Away' with my gal pals after a few glasses of wine on our back deck. I was also anticipating seeing the man in all his greatness just wandering around Byron Bay as I had had a very vivd dream about him the night before we headed south. Terry and Wayne poo-paa-ed my predictions but much to their suprise (not mine) who should we see jogging along a deserted Tallows Beach on the afternoon prior to his concert but Mr Gray all sweaty and practically naked. As I saw him approaching, I decided to stand on the shoreline so I could get a closer look. (I had lost my glasses the night before so this was necessary) He looked pretty buggered so I didn't say anything to him as he jogged by. I just smiled like a big idiot while Wayne and Terry sat on the beach willing me with their expressions not to do or say anything stupid.
That night I tried to get up close for his show but people half my age kept pushing me and since I wasn't drunk, I didn't have the nerve or desire to push back so I spent the first half of the gig behind a great big pole. It must have been my lucky day as a girl who was standing on a platform at the front of the pole got my attention and told me to take her place as she was leaving and she had seen me behind the pole. Ahh the kindness of strangers. So the for the second half of the gig I undoubtedly had the best position in the Mojo tent. I was sure that David and I had a connection that night, but Wayne assures me that the only possible connection we could have had was that he may have been slightly creeped out by seeing the crazed smiley girl from the beach that afternoon, standing as stiff as a board at his show just a few hours later (I couldn't move about much because I was tenuously balanced on the edge of the platform).
I wish I had taken a camera - but alas I didn't - so I'll be photoshopping myself into a few pics I found on the internet from the festival soon.

Hey Donna!
I've been meaning to visit your blog for ages, what better time to do it than while I'm at work on a Friday... Nice to hear about your April - may I suggest you switch to shoe pairs hanging from power lines? There's heaps everywhere, particularly around Bardon/Paddington for some reason. Anyway I look forward to the next post.. Ciao!
